John Varvatos is setting up shop in S.F.

“It seemed like the right fit,” said Varvatos recently, plopped on a low-slung sofa that he designed for the boutique, which he envisions as a “store of great finds” in clothing, accessories, music, books and all manner of things perfect for “a guy who is hard to shop for.”

To that eclectic end, there are antique globes among this season’s cloud-soft sweaters, and a table from the 1600s is used for displays. The sound system comes through 1970s speakers hanging high on the walls. “We wanted our store in San Francisco to feel as if it has been here for ages,” Varvatos said. “We want to be part of the community, to pay homage to what is here.”

It says there’s a party on June 11 with Los Lonely Boys. W00t?
