Thom Browne’s New Collection is Random

Too many men’s skirts this week

We waited in anticipation, but we no longer have to wait no more. Thom Browne’s collection is up at Men.style.com. We here at The Steel Closet pride ourselves in making fashion accessible and translating our tastes to our audience, whether they disagree or not. In the ever-changing and evolving world of fashion, it proves difficult to have a firm opinion on trends and styles. Doing so would be close-minded on our part. However, we are not going to sing praise and hallelujah to anyone who attempts to step out of the box. For example, Thom Browne’s Spring ’09 Collection is way too random. I’m talking about men’s skirts, wedding gowns, high high wasted pants, and low slung pants random. I GUESS you could argue that Thom Browne is challenging the conventions of masculinity, but the people aren’t ready for a menswear revolution. His collection is just too avant-garde for our times, I suppose. Can you see men wearing skirts by next year?

I only picked the most random outfits.

Tim Blanks used the term “gangsta-style” in his critique.

Lastly, if you were invited to Thom Browne’s runway show and you saw what I just showed you, would you still clap?

I would.

When’s the next time I’m going to be at fashion week in my life?!?!

I honestly think there needs to be more headbands and sweatbands worn with sportcoats and suits.

It worked great for Luke Wilson in The Royal Tenenbaums.
